Meridia (sibutramine) can be prescribed if you have been diagnosed with obesity and simply dieting and exercising does not seem to work for you anymore. You will be most likely started on a low dose of Meridia that will later be increased. If you intend to have some surgery done, make sure your surgeon knows you are taking Meridia, as this may affect his choice of drugs for the operation. Meridia can cause drowsiness, affecting your reactions and judgment. If you need to be alert and concentrated to do some task, make sure you know for sure that Meridia does not affect you in this way. The following mild side effects are possible if you started taking Meridia and your body is having some trouble adjusting to the dosage prescribed: difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep, headache, back pain, flushing, constipation, dry mouth, runny nose, flu-like symptoms, weakness, and heartburn.
